Cleared to Train for the 2028 Olympic Torch Relay
Training starts today. Here is where the relay stands and how you can nominate me.
Training Starts Today
As of October 16, 2026, I'm cleared to start training. Since the day I started this site, the goal has been to carry the Olympic flame for one of the miles between Atlanta and the Los Angeles Coliseum in 2028. Writing about the relay was the easy part. Now I get to do the running.
I'll post the training here as it goes, along with every piece of relay news the day it breaks. If you'd nominate me when the forms open, add your name at the bottom of this page.
Where the Relay Stands
| Detail | As of October 16, 2026 |
|---|---|
| US start | Atlanta, spring 2028 |
| Route | All 50 states, the first relay to visit every one |
| Finish | Opening Ceremony, Los Angeles, July 14, 2028 |
| Presenting partners | Coca-Cola, JPMorganChase, Allstate, Xfinity |
| Full route | To be announced in 2027 |
| Torchbearer nominations | Not open yet. LA28 says details will be announced at a later date. |
LA28 has not opened torchbearer nominations, and no one can sell or promise a spot. When the forms open, the public nominates and LA28 selects. The four presenting partners will also designate some torchbearers of their own. The complete torchbearer guide covers every channel, and the Atlanta announcement covers what LA28 said on September 29.
How You Can Help
A torchbearer gets chosen because someone nominated them. I'm asking you to be one of those people.
- Add your name to my nomination list. It takes under a minute. The day LA28 or one of its partners opens a form, I'll email you the link.
- Write a few lines on why. The form has room for it, and you'll have it ready when the real one opens. In 1996, community nominations were essays of 100 words or fewer. This guide shows what makes one stand out.
- Send this page to one person who knows me from running, church, work or the neighborhood.
If you work at Coca-Cola, JPMorganChase, Allstate or Xfinity, or at a company that will join the relay later, I'd especially like to hear from you on the sponsor page.
